Why is it that we always recognise the good about people at their passing? Is it the tall poppy syndrome, are we too busy to stop and recognise the true qualities of the living person or is it simply that at the time of someone’s passing it forces us to reflect on all the positive attributes the recently departed has brought to this world?
Over the past week we have seen and read countless reflections of the life and times of Bart Cummings. A family man, a statesman of the industry and a successful trainer, Bart has seen and done it all. A great history lesson for all as we heard about the good times and the less than desirable times. As quoted by son Anthony Cummings today at the State Funeral “There hadn’t been a bridle made to hold him back”.
The State Funeral today in Sydney will honour a man who has played a major, positive role in the racing industry leaving behind a solid reputation and the legacy of his son Anthony and his grandsons to continue, in their own right, in his great footsteps.
RIP Bart.
